Muslim woman attacked in Meerut, India for running ‘successful shop’, booked by police too

A 23-year-old Muslim girl Arshi who runs a tea shop, was brutally assaulted by a Hindu fringe group ‘Hindu Jagran Manch’ in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

According to International Business Times, friends of Arshi said that she was attacked as she attracted more customers than the confectionary shop, which didn’t go down well with the rival shop owner.

The rival shop owner started to harass her and demanded money for their losses, her friends said.

“She started the tea shop around two months ago. She rapidly upgraded her shop as per customers’ needs and paid special attention to cleanliness, and the number of customers at her shop started increasing,” one of her friends told IBTimes.

She has received critical injuries on her head and is undergoing treatment at the district government hospital.

Sachin Sirohi, city president of Hindu Jagran Manch told reporters that the miscreants visit Arshi’s shop and local have raised complaints about it in the past.

May 24, 2019: Rakbar, a Muslim dairy farmer, was murdered by a Hindu mob who thought he was taking a cow to be slaughtered for meat. His wife, Asmeena, must undergo an intense iddat (mourning in purdah) and their daughter, Sahila, is forced to abandon school to take care of the household. While the family falls apart, the hate machinery of rightwing Hindu nationalists – politicians and lynch mobs – works overtime to legitimise the killing. Set in a remote village in India, The Hour of Lynching sheds light on a global problem: communities turning on ‘the other’ – sometimes with extreme violence.

However, police registered an FIR against Arshi on charges of assault and against three of her friends for an alleged attempt to rape by the women of the rival side.

After the incident became news, the Meerut Police in a tweet claimed an FIR of attempt to murder and other relevant section is being registered based on the complaint of family of Arshi at Dehli Gate Police Station.
